Social Networking
Advantages
It is becoming more and more important to understand the benifits of social networking in both the corporate and private world. You can usually drive more traffic to your website by posting information about your interests, products, services and more to your social network pages.
Twitter and Twits
Advancements in mobile phone technology make it easy to communicate through texting or SMS (Short Message Service) while giving you control over the conservation. It's the preferred means of communication for people who don't like talking on the phone or simply don't have the time. The advantage of responding by text also allows you more time to think or intelligently phrase your questions and answers.
With websites like Twitter, you can easily take advantage of SMS in some very cool ways. Let all your friends know you just took "Winners Dog" with a few quick keystrokes from your cell phone, keep your customers up to date with current mortgage rates or maybe let everyone know "when and where" happy hour is.
You're not limited to communicating through your cell phone. You can use your own twitter page to broadcast short messages to large groups of contacts or "followers", all at the same time. You can also direct message your followers or other Twitter subscibers with a private message.
Facebook
Facebook is a service that lets you connect with friends, family, customers, and others who share similar interests or who may have common backgrounds. Using your "Wall" (your Facebook web page), as a way to stay in touch, share information or just have fun.
What makes Facebook different from other social networks are its extensive privacy controls, and its large and quickly growing user base.
You can quickly develop a very large network of like minded contacts to share information with. Facebook is also free.
